I hope coach Lombardi's quote got your attention.  There is a ton o' truth in it.  When employers start to make staffing cuts, those with lackluster attitudes end up being high on the list for termination.

You know who I'm talking about.  The person that consistently sees the glass as half-empty rather than half-full.  The person that complains about the company, the boss, the coworkers, the weather, etc, etc, etc.  Life just sucks for them.  If you are spending time with someone like this, I have two words of advice.  RUN AWAY!

Leaders need to be positive.  It's expected.  If you are in a leadership role and have a negative attitude, just sit tight.  Either your role or your attitude will change very soon.  I suggest that it be your attitude...

Attitude can be influenced, both good and bad.  It's a bit like computer programming with garbage in, gargabe out.  You control the filter.  What are you filtering out?

I don't wake up singing a happy tune every single day, but I do most days.  We all have our moments when we get a little down, but we have control over this (whether we want to admit it or not).  Here are a few tips to help you focus on the positive:

1. Smile.  It won't hurt.

2. Laugh.  Read a Bill Bryson book.

3. Greet people courteously.

4. Be enthusiastic.

5. Dream. Set a goal. Aim high.

6. Take action. Don't make excuses.

7. Love your work.  If you don't, change it.

8. Be dedicated and disciplined in your work.

9. Strive for excellence.

10. Exercise.  You'd be surprised what physical activity and some fresh air will do for your attitude.

11. Be open to change. Don’t be afraid of taking risks.

12. Accept adversity and disappointments.  Then...

13. Convert every experience, ‘good’ or ‘bad’, into a ‘learning’ experience.

14. Live each day as though it were your last.

15. If you think you have it rough, go serve someone who has less than you.  There are plenty of charity organizations around, so pick one.
