Leadership In Action
Herb Kelleher, the co-founder and former Chairman of Southwest Airlines, was quoted as saying "we've got a strategy-it's called doing stuff". I always liked that, because it referred to action. I'm not in favor of diving in without any thought or planning, but at some point you have to take action in order to get results.
Leadership comes in many forms and in many places. Being aspirational and motivational are qualities needed by every leader, but it takes more than this. A leader has to take action and execute.
One area where the USA really needs this is in its energy policy, or lack of. Love him or hate him, Boone Pickens is putting his money where his mouth is and is doing something. He is building a $10 billion wind farm in Texas and is promoting the use of natural gas as (nearly) immediate alternative to oil.

Pickens is 80 years old, wears hearing aids and has failing eyesight, yet he's doing more in this area than most people 30 or 40 years younger. He's a straight talker (he minces NO words) that is not waiting on the government to do something. He's LEADING.
