Podcast #5: Top 10 Resume / CV Tips
Your resume is the key to getting in the door for an interview. You would be surprised how many people fail to do simple things like make it easy to find a way to contact them OR they decide to write a novel about their career.
To help you deliver an AMAZING resume, here are 10 tips from Amazing Leadership.com.
1. Keep it to one page
2. Your name should be placed at the top center of the page in BOLD type
3. Include your physical mailing address, email address and cell phone number. *Note: No "inappropriate" email addresses or voicemail messages
4. No summary section.
5. List jobs in reverse chronological order (latest job goes first)
6. Use job titles and communicate responsibilities in a descriptive style.
7. Include specific information in job description and accomplishments. For example, if you managed a team of 12, with 6 being in Boston and 6 being in Bangalore, say so. If you managed a development budget of $500K, say so.
8. List 2-3 accomplishments under each job and begin the sentence with a verb (action word). For example, "Achieved 110% of sales quota every quarter in 2007"
9. Spell check and have someone proofread.
10. List your education beginning with your degree.
11. BONUS TIP: Contact your references when you get called for the interview. Let these people know about your upcoming interview and thank them for helping you.
