Going Green, Saving Green, and Earning Green
Last Friday, February 12, 2010, there was a presentation by Pat Welch, founder of Shop To Earn at the Eatontown Sheraton in New Jersey. It was an introduction to his company and it struck a very deep chord on the leadership front! It occured to me that if we are going to be leaders in our workplaces (and in our lives), saving the planet and our health should be at the top of our priorities! Pat has created a way to make it easy, accessible, and save us time and money as well.
His company is called Shop To Earn, and it is a savings portal to the stores that you shop in already. It not only offers you coupons but also cash back on many large chain stores like Target, Home Depot, and Travelocity to save money on goods and services. There is a whole section on the site for your own health and Green Products called Shop To Earth as well.
Pat says, “This is a mindset shift in how we earn money, save money and do so in an eco-friendly manner. That is what makes ShopToEarn/ShopToEarth a win-win for retailers, consumers and entrepreneurs looking to connect with a powerful professional network.” Pat's goal is to become the largest e-commerce portal in the world. And he is already off to a great start. Although this is not the average, there were members there speaking about their own experiences in New York and New Jersey who have been in the business only 18 months and already have thousands of members in their organizations. They also spoke about how they are saving money, losing weight, exercising more, and earning money to live on.
In Shop To Earn and Shop To Earth, Pat has created a culture of people who are leading the charge in helping the planet, and bettering their own lives and those of their friends and family. His idea was presented at the Money Fest Expo in New York in May 2009. The article can be found at: http://shoptoearnnewsroom.com/shoptoearn-founder-pat-welsh-presents-moneyfest-expo-ny
I believe that this concept is a breath of fresh air because it allows us as leaders in business (and in our lives) to make the purchases we will make every day anyway, and it helps save us money, earn cash back, and save the planet at the same time. As leaders, it is our responsibility to try to lead change in our mindset towards the planet. Here is an easy way to participate daily.
